James Deetz was a well known archaeologist who's emphasis was on the study of historical archaeology. Deetz has conducted many research projects, many of which was the Plymouth colony project which studied the settlement and life of the Pilgrims in the New England state of Virginia. Deetz has published many works in regards to his archaeological excavations, and has provided many theories and beliefs that 'culture' in its self provides the backbone to the field of archaeology.
